A city tour this morning to discover the Little
Mermaid, the Opera House, Rosenborg Castle, and Amalienborg Palace;
the winter residence for the Danish Royal Family. Travel to North Zealand
this afternoon to the Renaissance Frederiksborg Castle with its
Baroque Garden.

Fredensborg Palace
Travel north this morning to Fredensborg Palace; the
summer residence of the Danish Royal Family. Guided tour of the palace, formal
gardens, Reserve Garden, Kitchen Garden and Orangery. Lunch today at
Fredensborghusene; an extraordinary community housing project designed by Jorn Utzon in
1963.

Egeskov Castle
Head south today over the famous Great Belt Bridge to
the island of Fyn to the restored historic Romantic Garden of Sanderumgaard,
built between 1793-1828, near Odense. Afternoon visit to Egeskov Castle,
from 1554, built in its lake with expansive park laid out as a French
Garden.

Copenhagen to Gothenburg
Depart by coach and ferry from Denmark across the
Oresund to Sweden and to Sofiero once a Summer Palace with a
flourishing garden. King Gustav and Margareta brought their love of gardening
to Sofiero. On his death King Gustav bequeathed Sofiero to the city
of Helsingborg. Travel on to Gothenburg.

Gothenburg
A canal cruise this morning to discover the rich
history of this city. Lunch in the Garden Society Park founded in 1842.
One of Europe’s best preserved 19th C. parks. Afternoon visit to
Gothenburg Botanic Garden; 20 hectares of horticultural diversity
including a Rock Garden and Japanese Glade.

Gothenburg to Stockholm
We are heading to Stockholm with a scenic stop at the
small town of Mariestad on the shores of Lake Vanern. Afternoon stop in
Enkoping to see Piet Oudolf’s Dream Park, one of his early planting
triumphs. Paths meander through large panels of perennials and tall
clipped beech hedges punctuate spaces. Arrive in Stockholm, check
into our hotel in the city centre.

Stockholm
Visit the UNESCO listed Drottningholm Palace, a well
preserved royal castle and permanent home of the Royal Family. Afternoon
boat trip across Lake Malaren back to Stockholm. Visit the Vasa
Museum to see the world’s best-preserved 17th C. ship, which sank on
its maiden voyage in 1628. Afternoon at leisure.

Uppsala
To Uppsala University Botanic Garden, where Carl
Linnaeus, Sweden’s greatest scientist, taught botany. Afternoon visit
to Linnaeus Museum. The formal, geometric garden layout was restored
according to Linnaeus’s design from the mid-1700’s. Travel back to
Stockholm.

DAY 10 | WED 10 JUN (B/D)
Stockholm to Helsinki
Morning visit to Tantolunden, an allotment garden of
111 spaces, the oldest of the Stockholm allotment gardens. Late afternoon departure
on our overnight ferry to Helsinki. Cruise through the world’s largest
archipelago as the sun sets. Smorgasbord dinner included on board.

Suomenlinna Fortress
Disembark ferry in Helsinki this morning and join our
guide for a tour of this vibrant city known for its stunning architecture
and rich history. Take the ferry to the UNESCO listed Suomenlinna
Fortress. Check into our hotel with dinner included this evening.

Helsinki
Morning visit to Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden. Time out in
