BUNGAREE STATION

Bungaree Station was established by George Hawker and his brothers in 1841. It became headquarters of an extensive sheep station with 100,000 merino sheep by the 1880’s: a self-sufficient village with a beautiful sandstone homestead at its heart. Afternoon wine tasting at Seven Hill Winery, one of the oldest in Australia.

CLARE TO MARREE

Travel north to the desert oasis of Parachilna. First licensed in 1876, the Prairie Hotel is an iconic outbackdestination, renowned for its innovative menu, perfect for lunch. The Lyndhurst Ochre Cliffs are an important site for local Adnyamathanha people, quarried for thousands of years, the ochre was traded far north to the Northern Territory and Queensland, and south to the coast. Continue to Marree your home for the next two nights. Dinner included tonight.

DAY 4 FRIDAY 5 SEP
MARREE

Maree is a fascinating town to explore full of local history. Nearby is Kati Thanda– Lake Eyre, Australia’s largest salt lake, the best way to appreciate its incredible colours and patterns is from the air. Option this morning to take a scenic flight over the lake (at own expense). Later we’ll drive to the start of the famous Birdsville track. Dinner included tonight.

DAY 5 SATURDAY 6 SEP
MARREE TO WILPENA POUND

A day travelling through ancient gorge country of the Flinders Ranges-Ikara National Park. Morning tea stop under the River Red Gums in rugged Parachilna Gorge. Lunch stop in Blinman. Photo stop at a rocky ridge geological feature known as The Great Wall. Check into the Wilpena Pound Resort for 3 nights. Dinner is included tonight.

DAY 6 SUNDAY 7 SEP
FLINDERS RANGES
A local guide joins us today to explore this vast and ancient landscape including Bunyeroo Valley and Brachina Gorge with iconic landforms, unique geology and wildflowers; landscapes that inspired artists including Sir Hans Heysen. Photograph the Cazneaux Tree, a solitary river red gum made famous in 1937 by Australian photographer Harold Cazneaux. Dinner is included tonight at the resort.

DAY 7 MONDAY 8 SEP
WILPENA POUND

Optional scenic flights this morning over Wilpena Pound and Ikara-Flinders National Park. If you are not flying, travel a short distance to Old Wilpena Station one of South Australia’s oldest and best-preserved pastoral settlements. Finally a ‘Sunset Tour’ to watch changing colours of this vast ancient landscape of Wilpena and the Flinders Ranges from a panoramic viewing platform with drinks and canapes. Dinner is included this evening at your resort.

DAY 8 TUESDAY 9 SEP
ARID LANDS BOTANIC GARDEN

Travel south this morning to Port Augusta to visit the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden. Then onto the historic town of Quorn. Once an important town at the junction of the Sydney-Perth and Adelaide-Darwin railways, Quorn is now a popular film set/location. Stay overnight in Quorn to see the Silo light show.

DAY 9 WEDNESDAY 10 SEP
QUORN TO ADELAIDE

Travel to Adelaide with a stop in Snowtown, on the South Australian Silo Art Trail. Arrive in Adelaide, check in to your boutique hotel in the city centre. Farewell Dinner this evening.
